The purpose of the project is to provide and maintain an updated web-based platform to assist stakeholders such as local educational agencies (LEAs), advocates, and parents in learning about state and federal laws and regulations by providing rich resources regarding obligations and rights for the provision of a free and appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment to students with disabilities.

SPEDTex provides resources and support to help families and educators navigate the world of special education. The goal is to improve partnerships between schools and families, increase awareness of disabilities and special education processes, and connect with community partners to support the success of students with disabilities.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law that makes available a free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities throughout the nation and ensures special education and related services to those children, supports early intervention services for infants and toddlers and their families, and awards competitive discretionary grants.
La Ley de Educación para Individuos con Discapacidades (IDEA) es una ley que pone a disposición una educación púplica gratuita y apropiada para niños elegibles con discapacidades en todo el país y garantiza educación especial y servicios relacionados para esos niños, apoyo servicios de intervención temprana para bebés y niños pequeños y sus familias, y otorga subvenciones discrebionales competitivas.
