Presidio HS Band Alumni Currently Involved With Music

 

Rogelio Zubia (PHS '97): Rogelio is a teacher at Presidio Elementary School.  Rogelio, along with Sally (Averitt) McPhetrige (see below)-- were the first to advance to Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest (clarinet) in Presidio High School history. 

Ana Carrillo (PHS '97): Ana is an officer with the United States Air Force, stationed in Abilene, Texas.  In her free time she teaches flute lessons.

Carlos Franco (PHS '05): Carlos is a member of the Sul Ross State University Lobo Band.  In addition, he plays drums and percussion with The Resonators.

Jesus Hernandez (PHS '94): Performs locally in Presidio/Ojinaga with Las Meras Cuerdas and contracts out as a sound engineer and DJ.

Sally (Averitt) McPhetrige (PHS '98):   Sally was Presidio's first All-State participant (French horn), and along with Rogelio Zubia, was the first qualifier for Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest.  She graduated from Howard Payne University in 2002.  Mrs. McPhetrige previously was assistant director of bands at Denton (TX) High School.  She is currently teaching elementary music in Springtown, Texas.

Emmanuel Madrid (PHS '00): Emmanuel is currently assistant band director at Forsan ISD.  He is probably the only Presidio grad who has played in a major college bowl game (New Orleans Bowl, 2001, 2002, and 2003).  While at Presidio, Emmanuel qualified for All-State in 2000 (trumpet), and made it to State Solo and Ensemble three years in a row, being selected as Outstanding Soloist in 1998.  Emmanuel will be student teaching at Ryan High School in Denton and plans to enter the music education profession in 2005.

Michael Ramirez (PHS '02): Michael is pursuing an Associates Degree in Sound Recording at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.
